Rosatom and Uzbekistan nuclear utility Uzatom are working on a contract for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. Rosatom is also ready to offer Uzbekistan options for low-power NPPs. “Rosatom and the Uzatom agency are working on a draft general contract for the construction of nuclear power plants; this is an extensive and multifunctional work, Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Industry & Trade Denis Manturov said on the sidelines of the international exhibition, Innoprom – Central Asia. “At the same time, Rosatom is ready to offer additional proposals to Uzbekistan, including for low-power nuclear power plants.”

France and Kazakhstan have pledged cooperation on minerals and the nuclear fuel cycle, while in Uzbekistan there was agreement to raise the level of bilateral relations, during official visits by President Emmanuel Macron this week. The French president was accompanied by a large delegation including representatives from French industry.

An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team of experts has concluded a five-day mission to Uzbekistan to review safety processes for evaluating the site for its first NPP. The Site & External Events Design Review Service (SEED) mission was carried out at the request of the Uzbek government and hosted by the state agency for the development of nuclear energy, Uzatom.

A tripartite strategic cooperation agreement has been signed by France’s Orano Mining, the Uzbekistan State Committee for Geology and Mineral Resources of the Republic (GosComGeology) and the Uzbek State-owned Enterprise Navoiuranium during the visit of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to France. Orano has been present in Uzbekistan since 2019, when it launched a partnership with GosComGeology to develop uranium exploration and mining activities in the Djengeldi area. This led to a joint venture, Nurlikum Mining, which today has around 50 employees.
