Uzbekistan’s Nuclear Energy Development Agency under the Ministry of Energy, Uzatom, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of nuclear infrastructure development with Rosatom Technical Academy and Russian nuclear utility Rosenergoatom. For Russia, the MoU was signed by the General Director of Rosenergoatom, Andrey Petrov, and the rector of the Rosatom Technical Academy, Yuri Seleznev. General Director of the Uzatom Agency Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov signed for Uzbekistan.

Russian state-owned nuclear corporation Rosatom is making preparations to complete in June 2020 an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) agreement for Uzbekistan’s first nuclear power station, state news agency Tass reported.

Officials from both countries are working on an extensive EPC agreement, but a number of “uncoordinated” issues remain to be resolved, Tass quoted Rosatom’s general director Alexei Likhachev as saying

According to Tass, Uzbekistan and Russia were said to agree the final terms of the contract before an official visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Moscow scheduled for June 2020.
