UK-based MoltexFLEX has been awarded a research grant by the Henry Royce Institute of Advanced Materials (Royce). MoltexFLEX a subsidiary of Canada’s Moltex Energy, in October announced its FLEX reactor design, which uses molten salt technology. Using the grant, MoltexFLEX will work with the University of Manchester’s Nuclear Graphite Research Group (NGRG) to investigate how the FLEX reactor’s molten salt coolant interacts with graphite, which is used as a moderator.

Bangladesh is committed to continuous improvement of nuclear and radiation safety, an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team of experts has concluded. The Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) mission team identified areas for possible improvements.

An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) mission said Bangladesh is committed to continuous improvement of nuclear and radiation safety. The mission also noted areas where improvements could be made to enhance the national nuclear and radiation safety regulatory infrastructure, as the country constructs its first nuclear power plant (NPP).

Canadian Earth ‘x-ray’ start-up Ideon Technologies and France’s Orano Group (Orano), said on 6 July that they have deployed the world’s first cosmic-ray muon detector for use in industry-standard boreholes. The Eureka-approved research and development project, which is receiving advisory services and funding support from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP), will run from now until the end of 2021 at McClean Lake, an Orano site in northern Saskatchewan.

Thirty-five years on from the Chernobyl accident, Ukraine and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have highlighted their commitment to cooperation in nuclear power. Meanwhile Ukraine’s nuclear regulator has launched the start of operations at a new storage facility for used nuclear fuel at the Chernobyl site.
