Physical protection measures at Japan's seven-unit Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant have been significantly strengthened over recent years, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency. The finding came as Tokyo Electric Power Company submitted a plan to the nuclear regulator to begin loading fuel into unit 7 of the plant later this month.

Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) has officially approved Tokyo Electric Power Company’s (Tepco’s) construction plan for an anti-terrorism facility at units 6&7 of its Kashiwazaki-Kariwa NPP in Niigata Prefecture. Unit 7’s main facility has already passed the NRA safety screening needed for its restart and Tepco has been working on bringing the reactor back online.

The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant in Japan's Niigata Prefecture will not be restarted until fiscal 2022 (ending March 2023) at the earliest, Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) said in a revised business plan. The company submitted the plan yesterday to the government for approval. Tepco is awaiting regulatory approval to restart units 6 and 7 at the plant.

Japan's Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) today announced its official decision to decommission the four reactors at the Fukushima Daini nuclear power plant, close to the damaged Fukushima Daiichi plant. The company said in June 2018 that it was considering decommissioning the plant in conjunction with Fukushima Daiichi in response to local demands for a decision on the fate of the site.
