A USD148.5 million federal tax credit has been awarded to X-energy for the construction of the first-of-a-kind facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The TX-1 fuel fabrication plant will be constructed by the company's TRISO-X subsidiary and is designed to produce up to 714,000 TRISO fuel pebbles per year.

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with US-based General Atomics (GA) agreeing to work together to identify opportunities to collaborate on the use of advanced technologies and materials for nuclear energy supply. They will also cooperate on prospects to use ENEC’s experience in developing new nuclear builds as well as investments in GA’s advanced non-light water reactors, material production and 3D manufacturing capabilities.

The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and the private Japanese fusion company Kyoto Fusioneering (KF) have signed a Communication Framework Agreement to advance tritium breeding blanket technology from its conceptual stage towards commercialisation. US-based Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC) says the recent (£22.5m ($29.3m) matching funds grant awarded by the UK Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) will accelerate the design and deployment of its Micro-Modular Reactor (MMR) in the UK and global markets. Application for the award was submitted in March by an integrated team with US-based Jacobs and earned the highest scores of all applications in Phase B of the UK’s Advanced Modular Reactor (AMR) Research, Development & Demonstration Programme.

US-based Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC), which is developing fourth-generation gas-cooled microreactors has selected Gadsden in Alabama as the location of the company’s MMR Assembly Plant (MAP). The facility will manufacture, assemble, test, and inspect the non-radiological modules needed to construct USNC’s Micro-Modular Reactor (MMR). No radioactive material will to be used or stored at the facility. The 578,000 square foot highly automated factory will feature state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing processes and equipment and will be capable of producing up to 10 complete MMR nuclear units a year.
