The barge vital carrying two steam generators for units 5&6 of India’s Kudankulam NPP is stuck on a rock close to the plant’s purpose built jetty. The ongoing operation to rescue the barge suffered a setback recently resulting in the bottom of the barge being damaged, The Hindu reported.

Two nuclear reactors and eight steam generators for the Kudankulam NPP in India and the Tianwan NPP in China have been transported through the central streets of Volgodonsk in Russia, where they were manufactured, to a specialised berth on the Tsimlyansk reservoir. They were sent by road from the Atommash production site of AEM-Technologies (part Rosatom’s mechanical engineering deivision Atomenergomash). Transportation took place at night to avoid traffic disruption in the city.

A new study published yesterday by the New Nuclear Watch Institute (NNWI) finds that the "supposed dependency concerns" associated with the host-vendor relationship in the nuclear energy sector are "historically and practically unfounded". The report - Energy Security in the Age of Net-Zero Ambitions and the System Value of Nuclear Power - focuses on the issue of energy security and the important contributions that nuclear power can make towards maintaining and strengthening it as energy systems decarbonise, both along the various transition pathways that energy systems have started upon and at their eventual low-carbon endpoint.

The Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) and the European Atomic Forum (Foratom) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) om 27 January to collaborate in nuclear energy and to promote clean, innovative and advanced nuclear technologies.
