Rosatom, Zaporizhia NPP, Russian media and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have all reported drone strikes against the Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP). Drone strikes hit the ZNPP site on 7 April “in a serious incident that endangered nuclear safety and security, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said. For the first time since November 2022, the plant was directly targeted in military action that also represents a clear violation of the five basic principles for protecting the facility established by Grossi at the United Nations Security Council in May 2023, IAEA noted.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts have been granted access to the reactor hall of unit 6 of Ukraine’s Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP) after previously having been denied access, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said. Earlier ZNPP had not given permission for the IAEA Support & Assistance Mission to ZNPP (ISAMZ) team to access the unit 6 reactor hall, proposing instead that the team enter the area in about a week’s time. However, access was subsequently allowed and Grossi welcomed “this constructive step”.

Rosatom has installed eight hydraulic tanks - part of the second stage of the reactor passive core flood protection system - at unit 2 of the Kursk-II NPP. Earlier, in June, four hydraulic tanks of the first stage of the emergency core cooling system (ECCS) were installed. “The tanks, which will subsequently be filled with a solution of boric acid, are designed to cool the reactor core in any emergency situations, Andrey Osharin, First Deputy Director for Construction of New Units of the Kursk NPP, explained. “The joint sequential operation of the three stages of hydro-accumulators ensures the cooling of the reactor core and guarantees the transition of the reactor plant to a safe state in any combination of initiating events.”
