A new protocol to the intergovernmental agreement on the construction of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant was signed during a two-day visit by Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev to the Indian plant.

The reactor pressure vessel has been installed at the Kudankulam-3 nuclear power plant under construction in Tamil Nadu, southern India, Atomstroyexport, the engineering division of Russia’s state-owned nuclear corporation Rosatom said.

The RPV, which weighs about 330 tonnes, is one of the largest reactor components, a vessel containing the nuclear reactor coolant, core shroud, and the reactor core and fuel.

Construction of the Generation III Kudankulam-3, a Russia-procured VVER- V-412, 917-MW pressurised water reactor, began in June 2017.
