France and Kazakhstan have pledged cooperation on minerals and the nuclear fuel cycle, while in Uzbekistan there was agreement to raise the level of bilateral relations, during official visits by President Emmanuel Macron this week. The heads of Kazatomprom and CGNPC-URC said the companies plan to further develop and strengthen their partnership as they marked the completion of the second delivery of fuel assemblies manufactured by the Kazakh-Chinese Ulba-FA enterprise to a nuclear power plant in China. Kazakhstan's nuclear fuel company, Kazatomprom, has delivered to China a second batch of low enriched uranium fuel totalling more than 30 tonnes manufactured by the Ulba-FA Kazakh-Chinese joint venture. Ulba-FA began operation in November 2021, after it was certified by the owner of the AFA 3G fuel assembly production technology, French Framatome, and recognised as a certified nuclear fuel supplier by the end user, China General Nuclear Power’s CGNPC-URC. The joint venture was founded by Ulba Metallurgical Plant (a subsidiary of Kazatomprom, which has a 51% stake) and CGNPC-URC, which has a 49% stake.

The Uranium Enrichment Centre (UEC) in Novouralsk, Sverdlovsk Region in Russia (a joint venture between Rosatom’s Fuel Company TVEL and NAC Kazatomprom) has completed the first delivery of low-enriched uranium (LEU) to Kazakhstan.
