Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) has announced a target of achieving carbon-neutral operations at the Chalk River Laboratories site in Ontario by 2040. It said connecting to the small modular reactor proposed for the site could contribute to meeting this target.

The refurbished unit 3 of the Darlington nuclear power plant has been reconnected to the grid 169 days ahead of schedule, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) announced. Unit 3 is the second of four Candu units at the site to undergo refurbishment in a 10-year project that will enable the plant to continue operations until 2055.

As a team at Ontario Tech University launches a new "Ontario-centric" research project to evaluate the economics and environmental impacts of low-carbon energy technologies including small modular reactors (SMRs), a new report from Canadians for Nuclear Energy says the province should "seize the moment" by building new Candu technology now.

The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) has announced a commitment of CAD970 million (USD713 million) towards Ontario Power Generation (OPG's) Darlington New Nuclear Project, in the bank's largest investment in clean power to date.

The Government of Ontario has announced its support for the continued operation of Ontario Power Generation's (OPG) Pickering plant beyond its previously planned closure date. It has also told the company to reassess the feasibility of refurbishing four of the site's six units, which could enable them to operate for a further 30 years.
