South Africa’s Koya Capital has signed a partnership agreement with Stratek Global to assist in securing finance for construction of a high temperature modular reactor. The ZAR9bn ($480m) HTMR-100 is based on South Africa’s Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR).

As well as preparing to issue a Request for Proposals for 2500 MW of new nuclear "this calendar year", the Nuclear Energy Summit was told that South Africa is developing its Pebble Bed Modular Reactor technology and "deserves the opportunity to implement the complete nuclear fuel cycle for peaceful uses".

UK-based Sheffield Forgemasters has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with US X-energy and Cavendish Nuclear (a UK subsidiary of Babcock International) to explore opportunities around the deployment of a fleet of Xe-100 high temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGRs) in the UK.

Rosatom's fuel company TVEL and the South African Atomic Energy Corporation (Necsa) have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the manufacture of nuclear fuel and its components. Both companies aim to combine existing competencies in this area and to further interaction to develop relevant capabilities.

US utility Energy Northwest and X-Energy Reactor Company, which is developing advanced small modular reactors (SMRs) and fuel technology have signed a joint development agreement (JDA) for up to 12 of X-Energy’s Xe-100 SMRs in central Washington capable. Together, they would generate up to 960 MWe and Energy Northwest expects to bring the module online by 2030.
