Canada's National Research Universal (NRU) - one of the largest and most versatile research reactors in the world - has been permanently shut down. The reactor at the Chalk River site ceased production in October 2016, but had since remained on standby.

US-based Lightbridge Corporation has announced that Aspire Capital Fund has given a funding commitment to purchase up to $10m of Lightbridge's common stock, at the company's sole discretion for a period of two years, subject to certain terms and conditions. The purchase agreement may be terminated by Lightbridge at any time, at its discretion, without any additional cost or penalty.

JSC Tekhsnabexport, an affiliate of JSC Atomenergoprom, signed two contracts with Japanese and US corporations establishing provisions for commercial supply of low-enriched uranium, including a contract with Japanese Chubu Electric Power, which operates the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant on Honshu Island. By the year of 2022, the total volume of supply to Japan is estimated at 100 million dollars. The second contract was awarded to an American company Fuelco LLC, representing the interests of PG&E, Ameren Corp and Luminant. The contract price to supply enriched uranium to the USA market during 2014-2020 exceeds $1 billion.
