State news agency Belta said the licence had been issued to state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, which will operate the two-unit facility. The licence is for the transportation, handling and storage of nuclear fuel.
Alexei Likhachev, head of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, said earlier this week that Russia was preparing to supply the fuel to Belarus and send several groups of workers to oversee handling and loading.
Russia is building two 1,109-MW VVER-1200 reactor at the Belarusian site. Construction of Unit 1 began in November 2013 and of Unit 2 in April 2014.
