10 of the domestic plants are being built at 5 sites The 225-tonne steel component is part of the reactor building’s hermetic protection system. Courtesy CGN. Installation has been completed of the inner containment dome at China’s Taipingling-1 nuclear power unit under construction in the southern province of Guangdong, China General Nuclear (CGN) said.

The 225-tonne steel component is part of the reactor building’s hermetic protection system, designed to withstand high external and internal pressures and protect against radiation release.

According to CGN, there will be six domestic Hualong One pressurised water reactor units at the Taipingling site

Construction so far began for the first two units, Taipingling-1 and -2, in December 2019 and October 2020.

Both Loviisa plants are 507-MW Russia-designed pressurised water reactor units. Fortum’s two-unit Loviisa nuclear power station in Finland generated a record 8.2 TWh (net) of electricity in 2021, despite global Covid-19 pandemic disruptions, the company said in a statement.
According to the statement, the 2021 load factors for Loviisa-1 and -2 were 93.9% and 92.2%, which placed the station’s operating record among “the best in the world for pressurised water reactors”.

Both units underwent refuelling outages in 2021, lasting 18 days for Loviisa-1 and 24 days for Loviisa-2. For Loviisa-2 the outage involved the replacement of equipment, Fortum said.

Oskarshamn-3 began commercial operation in 1985 and is scheduled to continue operation until 2045. The Oskarshamn-3 nuclear reactor unit in southern Sweden delivered a record 11,000,000 MWh (11 TWh) of electricity in 2021, enough to power a million homes, according to operator OKG.

The company said the 1,400-MW boiling water reactor generated 13,400 MWh more in 2021 to beat a previous production record set in 2019. It did not specify whether the figures were gross or net.

OKG said outages amounted to 26 days in 2021, which gave an annual availability factor of 92% in 2021.
