An international team of experts carried out a thorough assessment of the way in which Chile's RECH-1 research reactor is currently being used and its potential capabilities.

Fusion energy company TAE Technologies has received investments to fund the construction of its sixth-generation research reactor that it says will demonstrate the viability of net energy from TAE's approach. The announcement came as TAE's fifth-generation reactor, Norman, has sustained stable plasma at more than 75 million degrees Celsius, 250% higher than its original goal.

The first safety-related concrete has been poured for the nuclear island of unit 1 of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant in Egypt. It marks the official start of construction of the first of four Russian-supplied VVER-1200 reactors at the site on the country's Mediterranean coast.

Operations at unit 2 of Belgium’s Tihange NPP and unit 3 of the Doel NPP cannot be extended for technical and safety reasons, owner/operator Engie Electrabel has said. Belgium currently has seven nuclear power reactors - three at Tihange near Liege and four at Doel near Antwerp. All seven units are pressurised water reactors operated by Electrabel, part of French energy utility Engie. Apart from Doel 1&2, which are 430MWe plants, the others have a capacity of approximately 1000MWe.

The latest survey from the Fusion Industry Association (FIA) – “The global fusion industry in 2022”, provides a snapshot of the state of the growing fusion industry in 2022. The completion of the 31-page survey was supported by Trinomics, as part of a European Commission-funded study on fusion energy development worldwide. FIA says the report will continue to be updated annually, and is an updated version of the 2021 report.

The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan expects that by 2035 the share of its future nuclear power plant (NPP) in electricity generation will be 12%. This was announced by Deputy Energy Minister Zhandos Nurmaganbetov during a recent meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Electric Power Council held in Nur-Sultan.
