The companies' dispute over the construction at the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey is still unresolved, according to Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Denmez has said, Anadolu news agency has reported. “When the matter was referred to us, we took initiatives to resolve the issues quickly. In such very large projects, problems can arise locally, administratively and financially. Unfortunately, these problems have not been overcome. We are continuing our efforts,” Denmez said. He added that the matter was also discussed at the recent talks between Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi.

The Netherlands’ Central Organisation for Radioactive Waste (Covra) has said it plans to realise a new Multifunctional Storage Building (MOG). The MOG is specifically designed for the storage of low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste in stackable storage containers. All documents required for the licence change were submitted to the Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS) at the beginning of August.

The global nuclear industry on 12 August submitted a statement to the Tenth Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), representing the views of more than 20 national and international industry associations supporting the peaceful uses of nuclear technology. The statement was handed to Conference President Ambassador Gustavo Zlauvinen, by the Director General of the World Nuclear Association Dr Sama Bilbao y León.
