US Southern Company subsidiary, Southern Nuclear, has notified the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission of its intent to seek subsequent licence renewal (SLR) for both units at the Edwin I Hatch NPP in Georgia for an additional 20 years, according to NRC. Through a letter of intent, the company informed NRC that it expects to submit the application in 2025.

The UK government has allocated GBP3.3 million ($3.8m) to help develop the next generation of nuclear reactors. The first full-scale laser system module developed by Australia-based Silex Systems Ltd for deployment in US Global Laser Enrichment's (GLE) commercial pilot demonstration facility has completed eight months of testing at Silex's laser technology development centre in Lucas Heights, Sydney. GLE said this represented “an important milestone in the development of commercial-scale equipment for GLE’s quest to become the only third-generation laser uranium enrichment company in the world”.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has donated $2.5 million towards the initiative of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to modernise its Seibersdorf laboratories (ReNuAL2).
