Framatome has completed the installation of the first 3D-printed, stainless steel fuel component at Vattenfall's Forsmark nuclear power plant in Sweden. In collaboration with German pump and valve manufacturer KSB, the Atrium 11 upper tie plate grids were designed, manufactured, and installed in Forsmark unit 3 for a multi-year irradiation programme.

Nuclear energy plays a significant role in scenarios which achieve carbon neutrality in North America, Europe and Central Asia, according to a new report from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). If advanced reactors are successfully deployed to complement large scale nuclear reactors and there is progress in introducing low-carbon hydrogen infrastructure, then the role for nuclear energy is even greater.

China’s State Council has approved the construction of two CAP1000 reactors (units 1&2) at the Liangjiang NPP in Guangdong province and two Hualong One units (3&4) at the Zhangzhou NPP in Fujian province. "In order to increase the potential for energy security and promote green development, the meeting decided to approve the Zhangzhou (Phase II) nuclear power plants in Fujian and Liangjiang (Phase I) in Guangdong, which were included in the plan and have mature conditions for development," state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Belgium’s Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC) may consider postponing the closure of Doel NPP unit 3, according to Belgian press reports. On 14 September, it was reported that the Doel 3 would be permanently closed for decommissioning on 23 September. However, the issue has been topic of debate within the federal government in view of the growing European energy crisis.

Estonia’s Fermi Energia has sent a call for tenders to three new generation small modular reactor (SMR) developers - GE Hitachi, NuScale and Rolls-Royce. Bids with comprehensive technical documentation needed to estimate the construction cost are expected by December, and the technology selection will be made in February 2023.

Repair works on corrosion problems at some of French state-controlled utility EDF's nuclear reactors are well on track, EDF's outgoing CEO Jean-Bernard Levy has told a parliamentary hearing. He added those works had been completed at unit 3 of the Tricastin NPP.
