EDF says additional outages at the 1,300 MWe units 1&2 of its Cattenom NPP are planned to save about six months-worth of fuel before their next scheduled refuelling in 2025. “As of today Cattenom 1 will have to save a quantity of fuel equivalent to 160 days of full load operation” before its next refuelling outage scheduled for April 2025, EDF noted in a statement. Cattenom 2, needs to save 26 days-worth of fuel before its refuelling outage in January 2025. The fuel saving “will be done through imposed load limitations or outages”, EDF said. These outages will enable the reactors to save fuel for colder periods when power demand increases.

Elektrárna Dukovany II, a wholly owned subsidiary of Czech power utility CEZ, has received a zoning decision for new nuclear units at the Dukovany NPP from the Ministry of Industry & Trade. The application for a zoning decision for two units was submitted in June 2021. “This step marks the successful completion of another milestone in the preparation schedule,” said CEZ Board Chairman Daniel Beneš. At the same time, it is also a clear signal to all bidders in the current tender for the construction of new nuclear power plants that the permitting process is being implemented.”

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has granted Holtec Decommissioning International’s request to revise the emergency preparedness plan for the Indian Point NPP in Buchanan, New York, to reflect the plant’s decommissioning status. The approved exemptions will enable Holtec to establish and maintain an adequate level of radiological emergency preparedness during decommissioning. NRC said these exemptions are consistent with its actions at other decommissioning plants. Once Holtec implements the changes, state and local governments may rely on a comprehensive emergency management plan approach (all hazards) for offsite emergency response.
