Chicago-based Clean Core Thorium Energy (CCTE) has completed Phase 1 of the pre-licensing Vendor Design Review (VDR) process with Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). No issues were identified by CNSC that could present a fundamental barrier to the licensing of Clean Core’s ANEEL fuel in Canada.

Canadian federal Crown corporation Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) and AtkinsRéalis (part of the SNC-Lavalin Group) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the successful deployment of Candu reactors in Canada and internationally and to expand their intellectual property licensing agreement (IPLA).

AtkinsRéalis (formerly SNC-Lavalin Group) unveiled its new Candu Monark reactor design at the World Nuclear Exhibition in Paris. The 1,000 MWe Candu Monark, with the highest output of any Candu technology, is currently in the definition phase. AtkinsRéalis says “it leverages Candu technology's tested and reliable design features together with the most modern and advanced engineering solutions; a Canadian solution for utilities faced with meeting the dual demands of net zero and energy security”.

Moltex Energy Canada has announced a significant breakthrough in its waste recycling programme, following “rigorous experiments” at its uranium-licensed laboratory. Moltex says it has substantially derisked its innovative WAste To Stable Salt (WATSS) process.
