US-based laser enrichment technology developer LIS Technologies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Curio Legacy Ventures (CLV), a subsidiary of Curio Solutions, to explore possible applications of LIS technology for efficient recovery of usable uranium isotopes from commercial used fuel.

Australia’s Silex Systems has completed a AUD120m ($81m) institutional placement to further develop its uranium enrichment technology. Silex Systems is developing laser separation of chemical isotopes and hopes the equity funding will enable it to accelerate commercialisation of the technology. Silex Systems is based at the Australia Nuclear Science & Technology Organisation (ANSTO) in Lucas Heights, Sydney. It has been collaborating for several years with US-based Global Laser Enrichment (GLE) – a joint venture of Silex and uranium producer Cameco.

Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev, at a briefing with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, said 2022 was not an easy year. However, “we reached record results in almost all areas, in terms of our main, gross indicators”. He noted that implementation of the state defence order was 100%. And fulfilment of target revenue ??was more than 105% with a new record of more than RUB1,700bn ($24bn).

The US Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Environmental Management (EM) has partnered with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and the US Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) to complete the recent demolition of a building and removal of a reactor to make room for new facilities, LLNL said on 10 May.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani on 10 April unveiled 133 new nuclear achievements in the provinces of Tehran, Markazi, Isfahan, Alborz and Qom to mark the 15th anniversary of the National Nuclear Technology Day. In a ceremony held via videoconference he gave the order for Iranian scientists to begin injecting uranium hexafluoride gas to a pilot cascade of 164 new generation IR6 centrifuges at the Natanz enrichment facility. He also announced that Iran has started mechanical testing of IR-9 centrifuges and launched an assembly line for their production.
