Kazakhstan’s Ulba Metallurgical Plant (UMP) and Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of research for the development of the nuclear industry. The memorandum provides for the creation of a working group of scientists from both sides to consider initiatives and implement specific projects.

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) announced it has launched a tender for a domestic nuclear fuel assembly fabrication facility for the Barakah NPP. "Over the past 18 months, we have been conducting an extensive review into the needs of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Programme going forward and specifically the strategic supply of the fuel assemblies needed to power the UAE's Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant over the next 60 years ahead," ENEC said. "As part of examining a range of options, we have entered into the tendering for a domestic fuel assembly fabrication facility."

National Atomic Company Kazatomprom has announced that the Kazakhstan-China joint venture, Ulba-TVS LLP, which produces fuel for Chinese NPPs has completed the qualification process for the production of AFA 3G type A fuel assemblies. Technology holder France’s Framatome has confirmed the announcement. Work on the certification began in March 2023 and took place in four stages, Kazatomprom noted.

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has signed its first commercial uranium fuel supply contract with Kazakhstan’s National Atomic Company (NAC) Kazatomprom JSC to supply the UAE’s Barakah NPP. ENEC said the contract opens pathways for future collaboration building on its long-established diversified procurement strategy to ensure a secure and sustainable supply of nuclear fuel. The signing took place during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to the UAE, during which the delegation of Kazatomprom participated in the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP28.
