US Department of Energy (DOE) Environmental Management (EM) crews are taking the first steps to bring the massive Alpha-4 facility at the Y-12 National Security Complex (Y-12) to the cold-and-dark stage, a process that involves removing all utility sources to the building as a precursor to demolition. Alpha-4 is one of the largest high-risk buildings at the site. It is the third former enrichment facility at Y-12 where EM has initiated deactivation work. Other crews are preparing the Alpha-2 and Beta-1 facilities for teardown.

Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC) has declared open the Pilot Fuel Manufacturing (PFM) facility, which will produce the first fuel for testing and qualification for use in the company's advanced Micro Modular Reactor (MMR). The plant will be the USA's first producer of private-sector TRISO and USNC's patented Fully Ceramic-Microencapsulated - or FCM - fuel.

The US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has removed more than 30 kilograms of highly enriched uranium (HEU) from Japan. NNSA and Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology worked together on the removal. The shipment was undertaken in close cooperation with the UK’s Nuclear Transport Solutions and Civil Nuclear Constabulary.

UCOR is a newly formed limited liability company comprising AECOM Energy & Construction, (an Amentum Company), Jacobs Technology and Honeywell International. UCOR’s teaming subcontractors include RSI EnTech, Strata-G, Longenecker & Associates and Environmental Alternatives.
