Chicago-based Clean Core Thorium Energy (CCTE) has completed Phase 1 of the pre-licensing Vendor Design Review (VDR) process with Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). No issues were identified by CNSC that could present a fundamental barrier to the licensing of Clean Core’s ANEEL fuel in Canada.

NB Power and ARC Clean Technology Canada (ARC Canada) have submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment registration document to the Department of Environment & Local Government (DELG) as well as a Licence to Prepare Site Application to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) for their advanced small modular reactor (SMR) project. These submissions progress plans to construct and operate an advanced SMR on the site of the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station.

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), and the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AOPFN) have signed a long-term relationship agreement to formalise relations between two of Canada’s leading nuclear organizations and the Renfrew County-based First Nation. The agreement will establish a working group to pursue ongoing collaboration, and create a Neya Wabun (Guardian) program to establish a regular AOPFN monitoring presence at designated AECL sites, among other environmental, cultural and economic protection and promotion activities and programs.

ARC Clean Technology Canada (ARC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Invest Alberta Corporation (IAC) for co-operation in the commercialisation in Alberta of ARC’s advanced Small Modular Reactor (aSMR) technology. The province of Alberta, along with New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan, has agreed to a joint strategic plan to support SMR development.
