NB Power and ARC Clean Technology Canada (ARC Canada) have submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment registration document to the Department of Environment & Local Government (DELG) as well as a Licence to Prepare Site Application to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) for their advanced small modular reactor (SMR) project. These submissions progress plans to construct and operate an advanced SMR on the site of the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station.

Canada’s Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and Poland’s Orlen Synthos Green Energy (OSGE) have signed a letter of intent (LOI) to support the deployment and operation of small modular reactors (SMRs) in Europe. The signing took place at OPG’s Darlington New Nuclear Project in conjunction with a site visit by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Members of the International Nuclear Regulators' Association (INRA) say they are committed to proactively collaborate on generic reactor design assessments and licensing and to support national regulatory reviews on small modular reactors (SMRs). INRA, established ion 1997, is a collective of the heads of the nuclear regulatory authorities from Canada, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, the UK and the USA. Its stated goal is to share knowledge and provide support to enhance nuclear safety, security and radiological protection.

Romanian nuclear utility SN Nuclearelectrica (SNN) and the Polytechnic University of Bucharest (UPB) have launched a NuScale Power Energy Exploration Centre (E2 Centre) at the University’s Faculty of Energy Engineering. It includes a control room simulator for NuScale’s VOYGR small modular reactor (SMR) power plant. It is the first E2 Centre to be established outside the USA. The first E2 Centre was opened at Oregon State University in 2020.
