GE Steam Power has delivered the first Arabelle steam turbine module for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant under construction in Turkey. Manufactured at its factory in Belfort, France, the turbine module is the first equipment delivered by GE for the project and was delivered four months ahead of schedule.

The UK is facing a major challenge to replace its aging fleet of Generation I nuclear power plants, many of which are scheduled to shut down in 2023.
The project by French state utility EDF to build two Generation III EPR units at Hinkley Point C in Somerset is on track for connection to the grid by 2025. Once in commercial operation the two units will provide up to 7% of the total electricity demand. Two similar units are planned for the Sizewell site in Suffolk.
However, press reports have suggested EDF is in “a race against time” to secure a funding deal for Sizewell C as delays risk making the project prohibitively expensive.
According to The Times newspaper EDF has hired Rothschild as financial adviser for the project and says it wants a “definitive way forward” from the government this year so it can start construction in 2022.

Five companies have been shortlisted for negotiations on the 2,000 MWe Belene Nuclear Power Plant project, Bulgarian Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova told Parliament’s Energy Committee on 19 December. The shortlisted candidates are: China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), Russia's Atomenergoprom, a subsidiary state nuclear corporation Rosatom, France's Framatome and US-based General Electric (GE), the energy ministry said in a statement. Invitations for submitting binding offers will be sent to the shortlisted candidates by the end of January 2020.

GE Steam Power expects "stable demand" for nuclear power generation over the next 10 years as "the only powerful source of electricity without carbon dioxide emissions", its CEO, Michael Keroullé, said in an interview this week with Strana Rosatom, the newspaper of the Russian state nuclear corporation.

New accident tolerant fuel (ATF) developed by France’s Framatome is being tested at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), the US Office of Nuclear Energy (ONE) announced on 15 June. The fuel was recently installed for testing at INL’s Advanced Test Reactor (ATR). This is the second experiment currently in progress in the ATR that is being developed through the US Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) accident tolerant fuel programme. Earlier this year, General Electric (GE) installed ATF fuel cladding at the commercial Edwin I. Hatch NPP in Georgia. ATF has advanced cladding and fuel pellet designs that increase its safety and performance. The program was developed in 2012 after the Fukushima accident to bring new advanced fuel concepts to market by 2025.

India won't buy GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy reactors that have not yet been used in NPPs, Sekhar Basu, secretary at India's Department of Atomic Energy told Bloomberg. "Right now they have offered us reactors that do not have a reference plant", he said. "We will not buy a reactor that doesn't have a reference plant." GE Hitachi has signed an accord to supply reactors for a NPP at Kovvada in India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh. India also has agreements with Westinghouse Electric Co, Electricite de France (EDF) and Russia's Atomstroyexport (part of state nuclear corporation Rosatom) to buy reactors.
