The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with US-based General Atomics (GA) agreeing to work together to identify opportunities to collaborate on the use of advanced technologies and materials for nuclear energy supply. They will also cooperate on prospects to use ENEC’s experience in developing new nuclear builds as well as investments in GA’s advanced non-light water reactors, material production and 3D manufacturing capabilities.

The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and the private Japanese fusion company Kyoto Fusioneering (KF) have signed a Communication Framework Agreement to advance tritium breeding blanket technology from its conceptual stage towards commercialisation. It also lays the for future collaboration on thetritium fuel cycle, as well as remote handling and power conversion technologies.

NAC International's patented Optimus-L packaging system to contain and transport high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) TRISO fuel has been approved by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Such fuel will be used in advanced reactors.

Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC), has announced updates to the design of its Gen IV gas-cooled microreactor with fuel developments with a tripling of power output. The company’s flagship Micro-Modular Reactor (MMR) can operate at various power levels from 10 MWt (3.3 MWe) to 45 MWt (15 MWe) and can work with either HALEU (19.75% enrichment) or LEU+ (9.9% enrichment).

Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC) announced that a technology breakthrough in its patented Fully Ceramic Microencapsulated (FCM) fuel allows a fuel geometry that results in both higher power and increased safety, enabling its Micro-Modular Reactor (MMR) to produce three times more power.

Japan's Agency for Natural Resources & Energy (ANRE - part of the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry) has selected Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) as the core company to lead development of a high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) programme. MHI will coordinate R&D, design, and construction of the HTGR demonstration reactor that ANRE plans to put into operation in the 2030s.
