Beijing Betavolt New Energy Technology Company Ltd claims to have developed a miniature atomic energy battery that can generate electricity stably and autonomously for 50 years without the need for charging or maintenance. It said the battery is currently in the pilot stage and will be put into mass production on the market.

Russian nuclear utility Rosenergoatom has delivered equipment for the 110/10 kV transformer substation for units 7&8 of the Leningrad NPP under construction at Sosnovy Bor in the Leningrad Region. The equipment comprises a stationary power three-phase transformer weighing more than 40 tonnes. Next year, it will provide power for the welding machines, compressors, lighting devices, tower cranes and other equipment for the start of large-scale construction of the two units.

Ukraine’s Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP) has completed drilling ten groundwater wells, bringing the plant closer to having a longer-term solution for the provision of cooling water to the shutdown reactors after destruction of the Kakhovka dam in June, according to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.

All 116 of the novel T-pylons on National Grid's Hinkley Connection in the UK have now been completed. The 57-kilometre connection route will connect low-carbon energy from EDF Energy's Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant to six million UK homes and businesses whilst also allowing for more capacity on the network for renewable energy from the South West peninsular.

Russia’s DV Efremov Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus (NIIEFA, part of Rosatom) says a Japanese test assembly has completed testing for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), under construction in France. Eight elements of a prototype divertor, passed 6,000 test cycles at loads from 5 to 20 MW per square metre, confirming "the compliance of the Japanese element with the highest requirements" of ITER. The tests were carried out at the ITER Divertor Test Facility (IDTF) in St Petersburg, which supports tasks for the ITER project.

Unit 1 at Russia’s Smolensk NPP has been closed for a scheduled maintenance outage during which major work will be carried out to restore characteristics of the graphite stack of the reactor in addition to replacing the technological channels. This procedure (URH) has already been performed on the RBMK reactors at the Leningrad and Kursk NPPs but never before at Smolensk.

Rosatom is considering construction of a pilot nuclear thermal power plant (ATST) Elena-AM, designed for use in small remote villages. According to documents posted on Rosatom’s public procurement website, the contract price for development of the reactor project is RUB 3bn ($39m).
