The US reaffirmed its support for Indian membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) during the state visit to Washington of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A long joint statement comprising 58 paragraphs, by Modi and US President Joe Biden covered a wide range of subjects, with nuclear only mentioned in one (para 22). It said: “Prime Minister Modi underscored the important role nuclear energy plays in global decarbonisation efforts and affirmed nuclear energy as a necessary resource to meet our nations’ climate, energy transition, and energy security needs.”

India and the USA have extended their Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation on the Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership (GCNEP) by 10 years. The centre - officially opened in 2017 - supports international cooperation in nuclear energy applications.

India’s Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) Secretary K N Vyas told India Energy Forum's Nuclear Conclave on 18 October that, to increase standardisation and bring modularity in building atomic power reactors, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is going for fleet mode construction for future projects. He said 17 new reactors are now in the pipeline, with seven already under construction. India plans to build 21 new nuclear power units by 2030, DAE said last year, and work has been going on as per schedule. "We are going in for fleet mode for construction, thereby reducing construction costs and speeding up construction time," added Vyas, who is also Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission.

India is aiming for "fleet mode construction" for future nuclear power plant projects in order to reduce costs and construction times, according to Kamlesh Vyas, chairman of the country's Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). Speaking at the India Energy Forum's 11th Nuclear Energy Conclave in New Delhi on 18 October, he said 17 nuclear power reactors are planned in addition to those already under construction.

India and Japan on 11 November signed a landmark civil nuclear cooperation deal which will allow Japan to export nuclear technology to India – one of 10 agreements which aim to bolster bilateral ties. The nuclear agreement, signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Japan, followed six years of after tough negotiations. "This agreement is a legal framework that ensures India will act responsibly in peaceful uses of nuclear energy and also in Non-Proliferation regime even though India is not a participant or signatory of NPT," said Japanese premier Shinzo Abe. It was the first time Japan had concluded such an agreement with a country that is not an NPT.

Australia said on 1 June that it had finalised its nuclear agreement with India, and supplies of uranium would begin shortly. Australian High Commissioner to India Harinder Sidhu said concluding contracts could take some time but "active engagement" was underway. "I am hopeful that we will see contracts concluded and supply start in a relatively short span of time," she told a seminar on trade liberalisation in New Delhi. India and Australia began talks on a Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement in 2012 after Australia lifted a long-standing ban on selling uranium to India.
