Russia’s Mashinostroitelny Zavod in Elektrostal (MSZ, part of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL) has manufactured and delivered new second-generation nuclear fuel for the PIK research reactor. The PIK high-flux research reactor at the BP Konstantinov Petersburg Institute of Nuclear Physics (PNPI) in Gatchina (part of the Kurchatov Institute) is the world's largest neutron source.

The US Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management (EM) has released its updated blueprint for the next ten years of the programme to clean up US legacy nuclear sites. Fifteen sites remain on EM's list of active clean-up sites: Brookhaven National Laboratory has been removed from the list after the completion of work there.

The legislative body for San Luis Obispo County has expressed its support for keeping open the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant, voting to ask California Governor Gavin Newsom to ensure Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) has the necessary permits to keep the state's only remaining nuclear power plant in operation.

Of the 220 research reactors in operation today, only seven are on the African continent. In other words, with 17.2% of the world population and the strongest expected growth in the coming years, Africans have access to only 3% of the world's nuclear research reactor capacity. Marguerite Leonardi, senior advisor at NPC Consulting & Engineering, and Professor Vincent Lukanda Mwamba, Commissaire Général of the Commissariat Général à l’Energie Atomique, explain why that is a concern and why the research reactor in Kinshasa should be restarted urgently.

The USA and Romania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate on civil nuclear energy. The agreement was signed by US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry and Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă on 24 September during the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water has dropped plans to build a NPP, citing cost concerns, the Kuwait Times reported on 24 August .The ministry decided to retract the plans because studies proved it was unfeasible and too expensive and because alternative energy sources, such as wind and solar power, were more cost effective. Earlier in August, Russia expressed an interest in helping the kingdom develop its nuclear power sector.
