Russia’s BP Konstantinova Petersburg Institute of Nuclear Physics has announced a tender for the development of a core design for the PIK research reactor in Gatchina, RosTender.info reported on 7 July.

The Siberian Circular Photon Source, or Skif, will be built at Koltsovo, a “science city” in the Novosibirsk region of southern Russia. It will be one of the latest generation of synchrotron radiation sources.
The project was approved by a federal government order in 2018. Tvel said the synchrotron and related infrastructure are scheduled to be commissioned in 2024. Total investment in the project will be more than $580m.

The USA and Romania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate on civil nuclear energy. The agreement was signed by US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry and Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă on 24 September during the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water has dropped plans to build a NPP, citing cost concerns, the Kuwait Times reported on 24 August .The ministry decided to retract the plans because studies proved it was unfeasible and too expensive and because alternative energy sources, such as wind and solar power, were more cost effective. Earlier in August, Russia expressed an interest in helping the kingdom develop its nuclear power sector.
