The International Energy Agency (IEA) in its latest report, Electricity 2024, dedicates a significant amount of space to nuclear power – a departure from its previous studies which treated it as peripheral. In its press release on the new report, IEA says the increase in electricity generation from renewables and nuclear "appears to be pushing the power sector's emissions into structural decline". Over the next three years, low-emissions generation is set to rise at twice the annual growth rate between 2018 and 2023. Global emissions from electricity generation are expected to decrease by 2.4% in 2024, followed by smaller declines in 2025 and 2026.

The UK Government announced that UK researchers can now apply for grants and bid to take part in projects under Europe’s Horizon science R&D programme. The UK will be participating as a fully associated member for the remaining life of the programme to 2027. UK membership. The announcement also stated that the UK will associate to Copernicus, the European Union’s (EU's) Earth observation programme. However, it will not associate to the Euratom Research & Training programme (Euratom R&T) and by extension, the Fusion for Energy (F4E) Programme although there is an agreement to cooperate specifically on nuclear fusion.

Spanish, French and Slovakian engineering firms IDOM, Assystem and VUJE have set up the NUClear Engineering Alliance (NUCEAL) to support the development of EDF’s projects in the European Union. The joint venture was launched in Lyon, France, in the presence of French Minister for Energy Transition Agnès Pannier-Runacher.

An agreement has been signed by state-owned Polish utility Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ) with a consortium of US Westinghouse and Bechtel, which is being set up to design and build a NPP in Pomerania. The agreement, which sets out the rules for cooperation between PEJ and the Westinghouse-Bechtel consortium, is the result of intensive negotiations in recent months. These rules will apply to subsequent commercial contracts for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Pomerania.

The Nuclear Alliance, a French initiative comprising 16 European countries seeking to further develop nuclear power, has issued a statement calling on the European Commission (EC) to recognise nuclear energy in the EU's energy strategy and relevant policies.
