Japan’s Kyoto Fusioneering (KF) has signed a special joint research agreement on plasma heating with the National University of Tsukuba. KF will partner with Plasma Research Centre at Tsukuba University directed by Professor Mizuki Sakamoto. The main objective is to advance the technological maturity of plasma heating, one of the focus areas for KF, including the demonstration of continuous operation in low frequency gyrotrons and the development of higher power output.

Holtec Britain has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with South Korea’s Hyundai E&C and UK construction and engineering companies Balfour Beatty, and Mott MacDonald. The event was hosted at the Korean Embassy in London by Ambassador Yoon Yeocheol and attended by UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Korea, Sir John Whittingdale MP.

Some 700 people attended celebrations for the Joint European Torus (JET) in Oxfordshire which closed at the end of December 2023 after 40 years of operation. During the celebrations, the inventor of JET, Paul Henri-Rebut, received a standing ovation. The event, dedicated to the success of JET was attended by dignitaries, scientists, engineers, and other individuals who had worked at the facility through the ages.

Polish utility Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ), which is responsible for the construction of Poland's first NPP, has joined the Mutual Insurance Association (TUW - Towarzystwo Ubezpieczen Wzajemnych) of the Polish Mutual Insurance Institution (PZUW - Polski Zaklad Ubezpieczen Wzajemnych). PEJ said this is an important stage on the road to providing insurance protection for this key energy project.

Netherlands-based nuclear energy development and consultancy company ULC-Energy has undertaken a study that investigated the potential to use civil nuclear technologies to power commercial maritime vessels. The study was commissioned by mining company and shipping charterer BHP, a major producer of commodities including iron ore, copper, nickel, and metallurgical coal. BHP has approximately 80,000 employees and contractors, primarily in Australia and the Americas.
