The US Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Nuclear Energy has concluded the first-ever US Africa Nuclear Energy Summit (USANES) in Accra, Ghana. The summit was organised in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and the Nuclear Power Institute of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission. DOE said it “provided a platform for crucial dialogues and international cooperation on nuclear energy” where “participants from across the continent discussed the future of nuclear power and laid a foundation for sustainable nuclear energy growth in the region”.

The second unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was put into commercial operation on 1 November. Together with the first unit the new nuclear power plant will provide about 40% of the country's electricity needs.

South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy (MOTIE) and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) at a “Nuclear Power Plant Equipment Export Integrated Briefing” at the Kepco Art Centre in Seoul presented strategies to boost nuclear exports. More than 200 domestic nuclear power plant equipment and component companies participated in the briefing. The meeting heard that procurement for the El Dabaa project in Egypt will begin in October and for the tritium removal facility project in Romania in November. This will unlock a total of 104 items with a value of KRW800bn ($603.77m) in nuclear power plant equipment exports.

Egypt's Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) has been granted a licence by the country's nuclear regulator for the construction of the fourth and final unit at the El Dabaa nuclear power plant. Construction of unit 4 is scheduled to begin by the end of this year.
