Urenco has signed a new contract for the long-term supply of enrichment services with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP). Urenco, which has been supplying enriched uranium to KHNP since 1993, said the new contract "will further improve long-term fuel supply stability".

Following a "rigorous procurement process", US engineering firm Bechtel has been selected by uranium enrichment services provider Urenco to support the expansion of the Tails Management Facility (TMF) at its site in Capenhurst, UK.

The challenges the nuclear industry faces are largely external and must be overcome if it is to help tackle the existential threat of climate change, panellists in the Nuclear Energy and its Future session of the Reuters Next conference on 11 January said. Terrestrial Energy and Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group (NRG) have started a graphite irradiation testing programme at the High Flux Reactor (HFR) in the Netherlands. This work is part of broader programme underway for confirmatory testing of components and systems in the Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR).

The first containers of used nuclear fuel assemblies removed from the Lepse floating technical base at the Nerpa shipyard have been transported to Murmansk, Russia. The fuel is being removed under a programme managed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and will be sent to Mayak for reprocessing.

The second and final shipment of high-level waste (HLW) from the UK to Switzerland has been completed. The waste resulted from the reprocessing and recycling of used nuclear fuel from Swiss nuclear power plants at Sellafield.
