According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Saudi Arabia is considering a Chinese proposal to build a NPP. Citing Saudi sources acquainted with the situation, WSJ said China National Nuclear Corp (SNNS) had submitted a bid to construct a nuclear plant in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, close to the border with Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) legal experts have delivered the Agency’s first-ever short introductory course on nuclear law for university students, as part of a pilot partnerships concluded between the IAEA and six universities in Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, Jamaica, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It was held at Khalifa University in the UAE and was attended by students from different academic disciplines, as well as officials and representatives of the University faculty. This is the first course in a series, with five more universities to follow as hosts of this course in the coming months.

The International Atomic Energy Agenry (IAEA) has announced the release of the 2022 edition of Country Nuclear Power Profiles (CNPP), marking more than two decades since the initial launch of the Agency’s comprehensive guide on the status and development of national nuclear power programmes worldwide.

The contract between state-run Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) and Atomstroyexport JSC, a Rosatom subsidiary, includes the construction of 80 buildings and structures at the station’s four units. KHNP will also procure and supply equipment and materials.
In July an official ceremony was held to mark the start of first concrete pouring for Unit 1 of El Dabaa, meaning the country’s first commercial nuclear plant has entered the main construction phase.
El Dabaa will have four Generation III+ VVER-1200 reactors supplied by Rosatom under agreements signed in 2015 and 2017. The first unit is scheduled to begin commercial operation in 2026.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has released its latest projections for energy, electricity and nuclear power trends through 2050. Compared with the previous year, the 2020 projections are largely unchanged. Under the high case scenario, IAEA analysts expect an increase of global nuclear electrical generating capacity by 82% to 715 GWe. Under the low case scenario, it will fall by 7% to 392 GWe.

Making a commitment to build six new EPRs in France would be an "effective stimulus" for the country's economy as it recovers in the years ahead from the shock of COVID-19, the French nuclear energy society (SFEN) wrote in a position paper published this week. Nuclear energy "ticks all three boxes" highlighted in the debate about the recovery - that investments should be in low-carbon, resilient and sovereign industries, it said.

The United Arab Emirates' Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has officially certified Nawah Energy's first group of operators for the Barakah nuclear power plant. Certification of operators is a key requirement for the issue of the plant's operating licence.

Unit 1 of the United Arab Emirates $20bn Barakah nuclear plant will now come online in late 2019 or early 2020, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec) said on 3 July. Enec said construction of the first of four reactors at the plant had been completed ready for "operation by the end of 2019 (or) early 2020”, the state-run WAM news agency reported.

An international team of nuclear safety experts led by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) today completed an assessment of operational safety at Flamanville 1&2 in France. It appears that the review did not include unit 3, under construction.
