US-based X-energy Reactor Company has opened the first training centre for future operators of its Xe-100 advanced small modular reactor (SMR). The Plant Support Center (PSC) is a 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility, which includes a full-scale plant control room simulator, reactor protection system prototype, and virtual reality experience, as well as offices and classrooms.

The African Commission On Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) and US-based DeepGEO have signed a partnership agreement paving the way for expanding nuclear energy in Africa and establishing a fully autonomous African nuclear supply chain. The African Nuclear Energy Funding Initiative (ANEFI) agreement supports the development of multinational repositories for high level nuclear waste in Africa to promote regional governance and secure financing for vital infrastructure development. DeepGEO said this “enhances the sustainability of nuclear energy worldwide, and boosts sustainable development in a continent that is expected to become home to 25% of the global population by the year 2050”.

French nuclear engineering group Framatome reported revenue of almost €4.1bn ($4.4bn) in 2023, with an organic increase of 9.1% compared with 2022. The growth was driven by the development of EPR projects in France and the UK and by an increase in service activities for EDF in France. New orders reached €4.bn in 2023, with significant successes for services to the installed fleet and fuel fabrication in Europe and North America.
