Rosatom and Myanmar’s Ministry of Science & Technology have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on nuclear infrastructure assessment and enhancement. A Rosatom delegation, led by Deputy Director General Nikolay Spassky, is on a working visit to Myanmar to evaluate the initial results of a nuclear energy cooperation agreement signed in February. During the visit, Spassky and Myanmar’s Deputy Minister for Science & Technology, Aung Zeya attended the first meeting of the joint coordinating committee established in accordance with the February agreement. Discussions covered bilateral cooperation on establishment of a regulatory framework, development of nuclear infrastructure, education and training personnel, and work related to public opinion in Myanmar. Following the meeting, a protocol was signed.

Russia and Myanmar have signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful use of atomic energy. The agreement covered 14 areas of nuclear technology development including the construction of NPPs, and the use of nuclear technology in health, agriculture, and industrial manufacturing. It also included cooperation on nuclear disaster safety, security and emergency response. The two sides agreed to work together to implement a project for a low-power NPP (ASMM) in Myanmar.

Rosatom and Myanmar’s Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Electrification have signed a Roadmap on cooperation in the field of the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes for 2022-2023 on the sidelines of the VII Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. The document was signed by Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev, Myanmar Minister of Science and Technology Myo Thein Zhuo and Myanmar Minister of Electrification Taung Khan, in the presence of the Chairman of the State Administrative Council, Prime Minister of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlain.

During a recent visit to Moscow, Myanmar’s Minister of Science and Technology, Myo Thein Kyaw, signed some memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev on cooperation in training and skills development in the field of nuclear energy and shaping positive public opinion on nuclear energy in Myanmar. The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Myanmar State Administration Council, Prime Minister, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. Rosatom said "the parties stressed that the signing of the Memorandums lays a solid foundation for the development of further cooperation on practical projects".
