South Africa’s Koya Capital has signed a partnership agreement with Stratek Global to assist in securing finance for construction of a high temperature modular reactor. The ZAR9bn ($480m) HTMR-100 is based on South Africa’s Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR).

US Trade & Development Agency (USTDA) Director Enoh T Ebong has announced funding for a series of international workshops to promote US-led civil nuclear energy deployment in Europe and Eurasia. “Civil nuclear energy holds promise as a clean and secure energy solution, and USTDA is at the forefront of supporting our partners both to develop frameworks for deployment and to advance their individual infrastructure needs,” she said.

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE), a subsidiary of South Korea's HD Hyundai, is to collaborate in a nuclear shipping project with UK start-up Core Power and US Southern Company and TerraPower. Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has used the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, UAE, to launch its new Innovative SMR (i-SMR) technology and its i-SMR powered Smart Net-Zero City model. The company has agreed to cooperate with Indonesian and Jordanian partners to investigate the deployment of i-SMR units.

The 67th annual IAEA General Conference has adopted resolutions related to nuclear and radiation safety, nuclear security, and strengthening the effectiveness and improving the efficiency of Agency safeguards. Strengthening the IAEA’s technical cooperation activities, as well as activities related to nuclear science, technology and applications were also adopted, among other resolutions. IAEA resolutions and decisions will guide the IAEA’s implementation of activities in the coming year.

Four Danish companies – Topsoe, Alfa Laval, Copenhagen Atomics, and Aalborg – are supporting a project to use small modular reactors (SMRs) to produce energy for ammonia production by Indonesia companies Pupuk Kaltim along with Pertamina New & Renewable Energy. The agreement was signed in Copenhagen at Topsoe HQ in Lyngby, Denmark, and all participating companies were present, as well as officials from the Indonesian embassy.
