Rosatom, Zaporizhia NPP, Russian media and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have all reported drone strikes against the Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP). Drone strikes hit the ZNPP site on 7 April “in a serious incident that endangered nuclear safety and security, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said. For the first time since November 2022, the plant was directly targeted in military action that also represents a clear violation of the five basic principles for protecting the facility established by Grossi at the United Nations Security Council in May 2023, IAEA noted.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it will provide vital assistance to Ukraine in coping with the devastating consequences of the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam. The breach of the dam caused a rapid drop in the water levels of the Kakhovka reservoir further complicating an already precarious nuclear safety and security situation at the Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP). IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said this added to the importance of his already planned mission to the plant.

An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Support and Assistance Mission to Zaporizhzhia (ISAMZ) set out for Ukraine on the evening of 29 August to ensure nuclear safety and security at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). Earlier that day IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi wrote on his Twitter page: "The IAEA support and assistance mission is already on its way to the Zaporizhzhia NPP. I am proud to be leading this mission, which will arrive at the ZNPP later this week.” He added that "it is necessary to protect the security of Ukraine and Europe's largest nuclear facility”.
