Westinghouse said TVO will uses Westinghouse’s optimised CR 99+ design, which is equipped with additional neutron absorption capacity, resulting in lower costs, decreased control rod handling and reduced active waste.
This contract follows a long-term BWR fuel agreement between TVO and Westinghouse announced in October 2019 for Westinghouse’s Triton11 fuel design to be used at Olkiluoto-1 and -2.
The control rods are being delivered from the Westinghouse fuel manufacturing facility in Västerås, Sweden, which will also provide fuel and engineering support to Olkiluoto-1 and -2.

Framatome has signed service contracts with Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) to support the long-term operation of unit 3 of the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant (OL3) on Finland's west coast. Grid connection of the European pressurised reactor is scheduled for November, with the start of regular electricity production expected in March 2021.

The Finnish government has issued an operating permit for the delayed Olkiluoto 3 EPR reactor, the country's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment (MEE) said on 7 March. Olkiluoto 3 still needs a final licence from nuclear regulator Stuk to allow it to load fuel and start production.

The Finnish government today granted utility Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) an operating licence for the first-of-a-kind EPR at Olkiluoto. Once it enters commercial operation early next year, the 1600 MWe pressurised water reactor will supply some 15% of the country's electricity demand.
