US-based Oklo has completed the second phase of the Thermal Hydraulic Experimental Test Article (THETA) testing campaign in collaboration with the US Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). THETA is a sodium fixture with instrumentation installed at ANL’s Mechanisms Engineer Test Loop (METL) facility.

Public hearings have been held in Russia’s Sverdlovsk region on justification of a licence to use nuclear materials during research to be undertaken by the BN-800 sodium-cooled fast neutron reactor at unit 4 of the Beloyarsk NPP. Southern Company and the US Department of Energy (DOE) have signed an agreement to design, construct and operate the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE) - a proof-of-concept critical fast-spectrum salt reactor. Southern will lead a collaborative effort to build the MCRE - which it says will be the world's first fast-spectrum salt reactor to achieve criticality - at Idaho National Laboratory (INL).
