Germany-based NUKEM Technologies has delivered equipment and related services for a spent ion exchange resin treatment plant at China’s Zhangzhou NPP in Fujian Province. NUKEM was contracted by AEROSON Corporation in 2021 to supply two conical dryers for the treatment of spent resins, including the design, engineering, manufacture, testing and quality assurance of the dryers and their ancillary equipment, as well as the supplier's scope of supply and services.

After successful recommissioning in autumn 2022, the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator fusion device at Germany's Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) has achieved some significant breakthroughs. In 2023, an energy turnover of 1 gigajoule was targeted, but researchers have now achieved 1.3 gigajoules. Moreover, a new record for discharge time was achieved, with the hot plasma maintained for eight minutes.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on 18 August that Iran’s nuclear programme and activities were fully in line with the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its Safeguards commitments. Khatibzadeh noted in a statement that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been supervising Iran’s nuclear activities and that Tehran had notified the IAEA of its measures in advance.

The European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland has completed acceptance testing of Russian-made niobium-tin superconductors manufactured under the framework of the Future Circular Collider (FCC) CERN Conductor Development Programme, Rosatom’s Fuel Company TVEL said on 16 June. The design of the superconducting strands and the technology for their manufacture were developed at the AA Bochvar Institute of Inorganic Materials (VNIINM) in Moscow, while the 50km long qualification batch of strands was manufactured at the Chepetsky Mechanical Plant (CMP) in Glazov, Udmurt Republic (both part of TVEL). The work was completed as part of the agreement between TVEL and CERN, and was based on successful test results.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani on 10 April unveiled 133 new nuclear achievements in the provinces of Tehran, Markazi, Isfahan, Alborz and Qom to mark the 15th anniversary of the National Nuclear Technology Day. In a ceremony held via videoconference he gave the order for Iranian scientists to begin injecting uranium hexafluoride gas to a pilot cascade of 164 new generation IR6 centrifuges at the Natanz enrichment facility. He also announced that Iran has started mechanical testing of IR-9 centrifuges and launched an assembly line for their production.

Scientists at Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) on 25 June reported a new record performance at the Wendelstein 7-X stellerator, which began operation in 2015. Earlier experiments saw the plasma in the reactor achieve higher temperatures and densities than ever before, and now the records have been broken again in a new test with upgraded components. Like the tokamak, the stellarator uses large superconducting magnets to suspend hydrogen plasma and heat it to the temperatures and pressures needed to fuse hydrogen into helium. The Wendelstein 7-X has 50 superconducting magnet coils some 3.5 metres high. However, while the tokamak confines plasma in a doughnut shaped torus, the stellarator traps the plasma in a twisting spiral shape, which is designed to cancel out instabilities in the suspended plasma.
