One-and-a-half times more people support the use of nuclear energy than oppose it, according to a multinational public opinion poll conducted by market research firm Savanta on behalf of energy consultancy Radiant Energy Group.

The UK’s Nuclear Transport Solutions (NTS), part of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), is collaborating with renewable marine technology specialist Smart Green Shipping (SGS) to investigate retrofitting new sail technology on its specialist nuclear transport ships. SGS is developing unique FastRig retrofit sails and sustainable technology for commercial ships.

Energy ministers from 11 EU countries have agreed to "foster closer cooperation" between their national nuclear sectors to boost the industry. The statement was made during an informal meeting in Stockholm of European energy and transport ministers. The alliance includes Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The survey found that 22% of participants want to see nuclear play a “larger” role in power generation at par with that of renewables, while 31% said Germany should still use some nuclear power, but certainly less in comparison with renewables.
Twenty-eight percent of responders were strictly against nuclear power, while another 12% expressed no defined opinion.

Ukraine's nuclear regulator has issued a permit to SSE Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP) for the retrieval of undamaged used nuclear fuel from the ISF-1 interim used fuel wet storage facility. The fuel will be moved into the new ISF-2 dry storage facility. The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) has also issued a licence for the operation of the Liquid Radioactive Waste Treatment Plant at the Chernobyl site.
