Levels of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have reached another new record high, according to the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). The WMO Greenhouse Gas Bulletin published today shows that globally averaged concentrations of CO2 reached 407.8 parts per million in 2018, up from 405.5 ppm in 2017. Global levels of CO2 crossed the 400 ppm "benchmark" in 2015.

The UK has won the bid to host the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26). It will host the main COP summit while Italy will host preparatory events. Up to 30,000 delegates are expected to attend the summit, which will be held at Glasgow's Scottish Events Campus in December next year.

Rosatom, the Russian state nuclear corporation, yesterday signed a series of agreements with overseas companies during the Atomexpo conference and exhibition being held this week in Sochi, Russia. The agreements, with Chile, China, Cuba, Finland, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Spain and Zambia, include the engineering and medical sectors, among others.
