Installation of the dome on the reactor building of unit 3 at China;s Xudabao NPP under construction in Liaoning province was completed in a single operation. Previously this had required two stages. “This unique technological operation … made it possible to optimise the process and lift the dome 188 days ahead of schedule, said Alexey Bunik, vice president for projects in China and promising projects at Russia’s Atomstroyexport. “The dome weighing 740 tonnes, fully assembled on the ground, was raised by a crane and put on the reactor building in one manoeuvre.” He added: “I am sure that the effective joint work of Russian and Chinese specialists will allow the implementation of the Xudabao NPP project exactly on schedule.”

Tianwan-4 is a Russia-designed 1,045-MW VVER V-428M unit which began commercial operation in December 2018. The unit was handed over to JNPC on 25 December 2020, Atomstroyexport said.
Construction of Tianwan-4 began in September 2013. Fuel loading was completed on 2 September 2018 and first criticality achieved in October.

In December, the ministry invited five companies to file binding offers: China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), Russia’s Atomenergoprom, a subsidiary of state nuclear corporation Rosatom, France’s Framatome and US-based General Electric.
By the 31 January deadline all five companies had sent letters to confirm they were ready to file binding offers, with KHNP also sending additional questions in order to make a final decision on whether to participate in the tender, the ministry said in a statement.
The deadline for submitting final binding offers is 31 May 2020.

Russia’s Atomstroyexport (part of state nuclear corporation Rosatom) and divisions of Chinese companies China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation (CNEIC) plan to sign a contract for the construction of two units at the Xudabao NPP (Liaoning Province, Northeast China), CNNC said on 22 May. The document of the Chinese corporation, published on the website of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, said the value of the contract will be $ 1.7 billion for construction of units 3 and 4 at the NPP. The work is scheduled for completion by October 2021 and August 2022. The construction period of each unit will be 69 months but work will be suspended in the winter for four months. In June 2018, Rosatom and its Chinese partners signed a framework contract for the serial construction of the two Russian design power units with VVER-1200 reactors at Xudabao. The document also provides for the possibility of building further units in the future.
