The defuelling of the first reactor at the UK’s Hunterston B NPP has been completed, on time and on budget, EDF Energy reported. Reactor 3 was defuelled in 16 months and work is due to start shortly on Reactor 4.

Drone pilots have successfully completed two flight firsts on the UK's Sellafield site which are expected to lead the way to increased safety of employees during decommissioning. Sellafield has now become the first UK nuclear site to employ a drone equipped with a radiation monitor.

UK Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) has launched a strategy focused on key objectives “to ensure that the right waste form, in the right package, is managed or disposed of at the right facility”. According to the 42-page document, “NWS will support accelerated decommissioning through innovation, with legacy and future waste streams managed in the most sustainable and efficient way through technology development, expertise and setting worldwide standards to provide value for the UK.”

The UK's Sellafield nuclear facility has unveiled its AI (artificial intelligence) strategy intended to improve efficiency and safety, with the goal that by 2032 "AI will be driving safer, faster and better performance across our facilities and business functions, with established advisory systems and non-safety-critical automation".
