Unless there are immediate, rapid and large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, limiting global warming to about 1.5°C or even 2°C will be beyond reach, according to the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The new IPCC Working Group I report assesses the physical science basis of climate change and is the first instalment of the IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), which will be completed next year.
