Russia and China on 20 January signed the final acceptance protocol for the nuclear island of unit 3 of the Tianwan NPP, transferring ownership to the Chinese customer for permanent operation. The signing ceremony took place at the plant during the working visit of Alexey Likhachev, Director General of state nuclear corporation Rosatom. Likhachev noted that Tianwan units 3 and 4 had been put into commercial operation "in record time". The plant is "a vivid example of the highest skills of Russian and Chinese nuclear scientists, the best confirmation of the synergy of the personal and professional contribution of each employee", he said.

The floating nuclear power plant Akademik Lomonosov was today connected to the grid, generating electricity for the first time in the remote Chaun-Bilibino network in Pevek, in Russia’s Far East. The achievement followed Russian regulator Rostekhnadzor's provision of an operating licence, as well as permission to connect to the northern electricity grid maintained by Chukotenergo JSC. Connecting the plant to Pevek's heat networks will be completed next year.

Russian regulator Rostechnadzor has issued a 15-year operating licence extension for unit 3 of the Smolensk nuclear power plant, the last of three RBMK-1000 reactors at the site in western Russia. The move means the whole plant has permission to operate for a total of 45 years.

The Leningrad 2-1 nuclear power plant in western Russia has been reconnected to the grid and is operating at 100% capacity after a period of preventive maintenance, state nuclear corporation Rosatom said.
The scheduled maintenance was the first since the Generation III+ VVER V-491 pressurised water reactor unit began commercial operation in October 2018.
Rosatom said work included assessments of various key components and the reactor core.
Pre-commissioning testing began recently at Leningrad 2-1’s sister unit, Leningrad 2-2, which is expected to be physically started up in March 2020.

Russia’ first floating nuclear power station, the Akademik Lomonosov, has successfully docked at its base in Pevek, an Arctic port town in the country’s far northeastern autonomous district of Chukotka.
Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom said the station, accompanied by an icebreaker and two tugboats, arrived at a specially constructed wharf at Pevek after an 18-day, 9,000 km journey from its original base in Murmansk, where fuel was loaded into the reactors.
The 21,000-tonne vessel has two Russian-designed KLT-40S reactor units with an electrical power generating capacity of 35 MW each, sufficient for a city with a population of around 200,000 people.
