Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, during a five-day visit to Russia, signed agreements with Russia for additional units of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The agreement was signed following a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Industry & Trade Denis Manturov.

The recent visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan resulted in a raft of agreements covering a wide range of areas. Kazakhstan President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said the visit was of special importance in terms of determining the prospects for the development of relations between the two countries. He noted that the independent development of the two countries was not an obstacle but resulted in a mutually beneficial partnership” which was “well understood in both Kazakhstan and Russia”.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has concluded a five-day Site and External Events Design (SEED) mission to Kazakhstan to review the country's process for selecting the site of a planned nuclear power plant.

Despite the difficult economic situation and sanctions, Rosatom's exports will grow by about 15% by the end of the year compared with 2021, Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev said in an extensive interview with Izvestia. In a recent interview with Tengrinews the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, said that the NPP construction project will be international. "We are studying international experience in the construction and operation of nuclear power plants. These are South Korean, French, Chinese and Russian technologies. We have looked at the experience of Turkey, the Akkuyu NPP, which is being built with the participation of Rosatom. This is an international project where recognised suppliers, including independent expertise from a French company. The experience of building Akkuyu is very useful to us. We plan that the NPP project in Kazakhstan will also be international," he said.

Uzbekistan's preparations to build its first nuclear power plant are gathering pace with a sense of making up for lost time. The Central Asian country became a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as long ago as 1994, has 50 years of experience in nuclear research and is the world's fifth biggest producer of uranium.

Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom in 2016 will contribute RUB24.6m ($300,000) from its state budget allocation to the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA's) International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles (INPRO project), according to a Russian government directive published on the official legal information portal. The directive says Rosatom and the Russian Foreign Ministry will monitor the use of the Russian contribution.
